Frequently Asked Questions
What is the primary purpose of the SB1 9-inch offset coupler?
The SB1 is specifically designed for short-bed trucks to provide a 9-inch extension between the truck cab and the trailer. This extra clearance is vital for making sharp turns without the trailer making contact with your truck cab.
What size trailer tube does the SB1 fit?
This model is designed to fit trailers equipped with a 4″ inside diameter (ID) round tube. The coupler itself measures 4″ outside diameter (OD). We strongly recommend measuring your trailer downtube before ordering, as some imported tubes are inconsistently sized.

The SB1 is fabricated using extra heavy-wall tubing for maximum strength and carries a Gross Trailer Weight Rating (GTWR) of 24,000 lbs.
Is the SB1 a self-latching coupler?
Yes. It features our patented self-latching mechanism that automatically locks onto the ball when the trailer is lowered. It also includes a molded hitching guide to help align the ball during the coupling process.
How do I uncouple the trailer from this unit?
Disconnecting is simple and safe. You simply pull the included release cable, which is typically mounted near your trailer’s jack handle, eliminating the need to climb into the truck bed.
What ball size is required for this coupler?
The SB1 is designed to fit all standard 2-5/16″ gooseneck balls.
How long does the installation process take?
Installation is straightforward and typically takes about 30 minutes. The unit comes with all necessary hardware and the coupler release cabling required for setup.
What if I need more or less than a 9-inch offset?
We offer a variety of lengths to suit different truck and trailer combinations, including the SB1-6 (6″ offset), SB112 (12″ offset), and SB116 (16″ offset). Available with 4” & 4 ½” square tubes.
What materials are used in the construction of PopUp couplers?

What our customers are saying
“This is a 2019 Ford F-150 with 5’5” bed. I was worried about finding a product to get the clearance I needed to pull my horse trailer . My trailer is almost 79 inches wide . Installed the SB116 16” inch extension coupler on my trailer and I’ve pulled it several trips now and it works great. My trailer pulls great due to load is on the truck where it needs to be. Very well made and love the fact I don’t have to get up in the back of truck or reach over the bedside to hook up and unhook. The folks at PopUp Towing were great to deal with and answered all my questions.”
- Mark G.
“We installed a CAG (Connect-Adapt-Go) from PopUp Towing on a truck recently. It went in very easily. Instructions were very clear and we are very pleased in the outcome. We will definitely do more business with PopUp Towing.”
- Rick & Jean Horsch
“We purchased a CC2 Cushion Coupler by PopUp Towing. I’ll tell you what, after arriving home from the last horse show, we were amazed to find two cans of pop that were left on the dinette table still on the table. Now that’s a smooth ride!”
- Larry P.
“I was having trouble explaining my issue and determining a solution to my turning issue when towing my gooseneck trailer. A friend of mine said, you should try to call the guys at PopUp Towing as they helped solve his issues. Let me tell you, I spoke with two gentlemen at PopUp if I remember correctly their names were Derrick and Chance, those to guys seem to have more knowledgeable information than anyone I’ve spoken with in this industry. Years of valuable knowledge, and highly recommended if you have similar issues. Thanks again and I absolutely love the new RVGC complete pinbox replacement to allow me to tow my 5th wheel without the bulky 5th wheel hitch taking up my bed space.”
- Bill F.
